Appetizers

Korean Tofu Side Dish

Growing up, I hated the texture/ taste of tofu. This honestly changed once I tried this appetizer at a restaurant. This appetizer is my GO-TO recipe whenever I’m making Korean food or just in the mood for some tofu. This recipe is absolutely DELICIOUS and I PROMISE it is going to be a crowd favourite. It’s super simple but tasty as f*ck.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 package of tofu (6 oz/ 170g)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup diced scallions
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp hot water
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes (optional)
  • 3 garlic gloves (minced)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Gently pat the tofu with a paper towel to remove any excess liquid.
  2. Slice up tofu into 2″ x 1/2″ pieces.
  3. Mix together soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, hot water, chilli flakes, garlic in a small bowl. Set aside.
  4. Heat up NON-STICK cooking pan to medium heat. (Very important it’s non stick!). Stir in 1 tbsp of coconut oil.
  5. Once the pan is heated, carefully place tofu slices into the pan.
  6. Do not touch/flip the tofu for 5-7 minutes on medium heat.
  7. After 5-7 minutes/ the tofu is browned, flip it over and repeat step 5. If you would like the tofu more crispy, add an additional 1 tbsp coconut oil.
  8. Once lightly browned on both sides, remove from pan.
  9. Spoon the sauce over the tofu, top with scallions, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  10. Serve & enjoy!!
